In my work, I have used the taxonomy as well as other effective structures when planning my questioning techniques in the classroom. In this article, I am sharing my experience of using Bloom’s taxonomy to increase the skill levels of children, by illustrating specific examples.

25-12-2017  · Learning well requires learning at all the levels of Bloom’s taxonomy. Clearly, the top 4 levels – application, analysis, synthesis, and creation – should be our goal when designing learning. Effective application of Bloom’s Taxonomy in the classroom results in a very active, noisy classroom where application and innovation are the norm.

Bloom’s Taxonomy organised “the cognitive domain into six levels ordered from least to most complex [which] are assumed to represent a cumulative hierarchy” (Kunen, Cohen and Solman, 1981, p.202). These levels, from lowest to highest, were Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation.

Below is an example of a classroom activity I designed for a Medieval History class that incorporated Bloom’s Taxonomy. This activity addressed the students’ understandings and knowledge of how and why castles developed during the Middle Ages. Students were required to select and the most appropriate parts of a castle for defence, and then draw their castle.
